Bristol GP Education Scheme Membership 2013
Welcome to Bristol GP Education. We are the only organisation exclusively involved in education and support for GPs in Bristol and the surrounding area. This means that all our time and resources go into providing high quality education and associated support, information and guidance.
We are run by GPs and educationalists. As such, we are closely in touch with what GPs want and need to learn, and strive always to provide learning opportunities that are engaging, useful and reflect the most up to date practice.

Benefits 2013
- Attendance at up to 6 ‘core’ courses from our extensive programme of events (4 ‘core’ courses for nurse membership)
- The opportunity to come to any number of ‘core’ courses over and above the 6, space permitting, for a small charge of £35
- Subsidised places on any courses put on by GP educationalist colleagues in Somerset, Bath, Gloucestershire and Weston (‘PLANET’) - £25 per course
- ‘Partnership education events’: additional courses put on jointly by us and others (eg GP Educationalists from other regions) are available to scheme members at significantly reduced rates (no more than £50 for scheme members)
- Course handouts and useful follow-up information available all year via the Bristol GP Education library
- Significant reductions on the cost of BMJ Masterclass courses. These are advertised on the website under ‘other recommended courses’
- An enhanced website. We have been developing our website so that it provides a really useful information service for GPs. This includes up to date information about appraisal and revalidation; help in finding a small group; how to access support, and information about other providers’ courses that we believe are of educational and clinical merit
- A free 1 hour tutorial is available to all scheme members. This can be used either for professional development (eg career planning), or to help prepare for (or make plans after) appraisal
- Every practice which joins the scheme will be entitled to a free 2 hour ‘in house’ course, either for the GPs or for the whole practice team. Courses include both clinical and professional development. Please see the list of available courses on our website. These courses cost a minimum of £200 each to non-member practices, and were highly popular in previous years
- Having attended an event, members have access to a Course Certificate stating the topics covered and number of CPD Learning hours. The certificate incorporates a Reflection on Learning template
- Direct access via email or phone to GPs/educationalists, who can provide advice and information on
- the content of a specific course
- which courses are coming up in other areas (free of charge to members)
- queries about appraisal/revalidation
- career development opportunities
* Practice membership is available where 5 partners or more in a practice join. This applies to practices which have 5 or more partners. For practices with 4 or fewer partners, all should join to receive the benefits of practice membership
